One of the UK’s leading Chartered Quantity Surveying practices, Baker Mallett is celebrating its 90th anniversary this month.
The practice was first set up in 1919 by Sydney Charles Baker and John Graham Mallett and was based at Lonsdale Chambers on Chancery Lane in London. Having firmly established its roots in the city it then began to expand throughout the UK and now has seven offices based around the country.
Baker Mallett has been involved in many high profile projects over the years such as providing quantity surveying services for the Empire Exhibition including Wembley Stadium in the early 1920s; auditing services to the Sellafield Nuclear Reprocessing Site in 1982 and more recently providing quantity surveying services and CDM Coordinator services to the British Museum and the Natural History Museum amongst other major clients.
Stephen Mitchinson, Partner of Stockton on Tees Office says: “As a company we’re extremely proud to be celebrating our 90th anniversary which is a great achievement for any business. Our ongoing success lies in the strong foundations of the business which has allowed us to build on a reputation for delivering excellent results. Alongside our vast experience we’ve developed over the years we’ve successfully expanded the business even further.
“We have been involved in many significant projects in the region including, Project Titan for Huntsman at Greatham and the Bioethanol Plant for Ensus at Wilton. As a business very much based in the heart of Tees Valley, we pride ourselves on our ongoing commitment to the growth and improvement of this area.”
Mr Peter Mallett, age 94, the surviving son of the company founder, John Graham Mallett who worked for the business for 26 years, adds: “I’m delighted that Baker Mallett is still a successful and thriving practice, it is a tremendous tribute to my father as he always had such high expectations for the business.
“Having worked for the company for many years I witnessed first hand the dedication and commitment our employees gave to the business and those who made it what it is today. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in its success over the years.”
