The contract, which was won in a competitive bidding process, will see Day and Zimmerman offering detailed engineering design and technical procurement support on a significant plant efficiency and environmental improvement project, which is taking place on ADVANSA (UK) Ltd’s T8 Pure Terepthalic Acid plant at Wilton.

Gary Conroy, Wilton Site Manager for ADVANSA (UK) Ltd, said: “This project follows 6 years of investment at Wilton, amounting to more than £88 million. It will allow us to continue our drive for manufacturing excellence, in terms of both cost and efficiency.

Day and Zimmerman demonstrated a high level of professionalism throughout our selection process and we have every expectation that the project will have a positive outcome for both our companies.”

Within the last few months Day and Zimmerman UK has also seen growing success in the process and nuclear sectors, with demand for its procurement and construction management services increasing in all of the firm’s UK offices; Wilton, Manchester, Westlakes and Gloucester.

Thanks in part to a strong focus on work safety, Day and Zimmerman has also recently passed another major milestone in its history, completing two million design and construction man hours, without a single lost time accident since UK Operations first began in 1999.

Ian Taylor, UK Managing Director for Day and Zimmerman, said: “The strong safety culture within our company motivates the staff to continually look for more innovative ways to promote safe behaviour and deal effectively with the risks that are inherent in the process industries environment we work in.

“Day and Zimmerman’s safety policy, which was recently adapted to include an enforced glove policy on one UK site, has also played a major part in achieving over 200,000 subcontract construction hours without a single medical treatment being required in a 16 month schedule.”

In this latest round of contract wins and company improvements, Day and Zimmerman has also recently implemented SAP, a secure, web accessed platform, which faciltitates B2B transactions. This has already proven to have many benefits, including manpower savings, faster access to real time data and improved competitiveness.

Richard Brady, Director of Business Development for Day and Zimmerman, said: “The new contract with ADVANSA (UK) Ltd and the company’s variation of other success has resulted in the recruitment of a significant number of personnel across the last two months.

“We are also confident that opportunities currently being pursued will materialise, resulting in further expansion.”

Malcolm Potter, Manager of the Tees Valley Engineering Partnership, said: “The TVEP recognises the significant safety milestone and recent project successes of Day and Zimmerman in Teesside and commend the company in its drive for engineering excellence.

“Designing and operating facilities to the highest level of safety, is the engineering industry’s number one priority, and Day and Zimmerman’s recent achievements can only reflect positively on the strength of engineering capabilities within the North-East region.”
