Jobs Boost as R Blackett Charlton move

30-01-2006

A tees Valley subsidiary of Tyneside-based industrial services group Chieftain will boost jobs on Teesside, with a move to new premises

R Blackett Charlton (RBC) opened for business on Teesside in February 2005, but has already outgrown its existing office space at The Wilton Centre.

RBC will move all staff to a 2.5 acre site, known as RBC House, on Skippers Lane Industrial Estate in Middlesbrough.

The move will consolidate 35 staff members from the site at the Wilton Centre and the former Bringover site in Stockton, following RBC's acquisition of the firm in September.

The premises have been specially refitted for RBC, and will incorporate RBC's Teesside regional office as well as dedicated workshops to meet the engineering demands of the North-east process industries.

The number of employees is set to increase, with planned expansion in the former Bringover operations.

RBC, which is already responsible for some 250 workers on sites including BASF, ConocoPhilips, Hydro Polymers and the Teesside Power Station, is also in advanced negotiations to recruit more well-known industry names, and further its presence on Teesside.

Bill Taylor, chief executive of Chieftain Group, said: "In two years, RBC's Teesside business has already outgrown its existing premises thanks to contracts it has secured with major blue-chip clients in the process industries.

"Our relocation further reinforces our commitment to the process industry on Teesside and will safeguard skilled employment for the future."

RBC is one of only 40 companies worldwide to have secured the British Safety Council Sword of Honour, showing its safety systems are among the best in the world.
